HC Deb 07 March 1940 vol 358 cc549-50
31. Mr. Jackson

asked the Minister of Health how many houses for rural workers are being built under Rural Housing Acts at the present time; and how many rural cottages are being reconditioned under the Rural Workers Housing Act?

Mr. Elliot

Returns received by my Department towards the end of November last showed that rural district councils had completed 2,651 houses since 31st July, 1939, and were completing between 5,000 and 6,000 houses which were under construction at the beginning of the war. In addition, I have approved for subsidy of the erection of 333 new houses for agricultural workers. I am unable to give the number of houses at present being built for rural workers or being reconditioned under the Housing Acts.
