HC Deb 06 March 1940 vol 358 c375
43. Sir J. Lucas

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that in many leases and contracts for the sale or resale of land in Palestine a clause is inserted that only Jews may in future be employed thereon irrespective of the nationality of the former owners; and whether he will take steps to prevent this practice as being against the public interest?

Mr. M. MacDonald

Yes, Sir. I am aware that the lessee of Jewish National Fund land is required to undertake that he will execute all works connected with the cultivation of the holding only with Jewish labour. This is one of the reasons why we have been bound to introduce the Land Regulations which are to be discussed this afternoon.

Mr. Mander

Will not exactly the same conditions apply to the case of Arab and Wafd lands?
