HC Deb 05 March 1940 vol 358 c212
57. Mr. Jennings

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether Members of the House of Commons serving with His Majesty's Forces draw their Army pay in addition to their salary as a Member of Parliament?

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Captain Crookshank)

The payment of the prescribed salary to a Member of Parliament who is mobilised could not be withheld by executive decision. No doubt hon. and gallant Gentlemen who draw Service pay will decide for themselves whether, in their own cases, they wish to continue to draw all or any part of their Parliamentary salaries as well. It has always been and still is open to Members not to draw their full salaries, and in the last war a number of Members who were serving declined to take them.
