§ 26. Mr. Lawsonasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that certain miners in the County of Durham have to use candles for their work; that the cost of these has risen between 1st August and 12th February from 4d. to 1s. 6d. per lb.; and what steps he proposes to deal with this abnormal rise in the cost of a commodity, the burden of which falls upon the miners?
§ Sir A. DuncanIf the hon. Member will be good enough to let me have particulars of the cases he has in mind, I will ask the local price regulation committee to examine and report upon them forthwith, in order that I may be in a position to decide whether the Prices of Goods Act should be applied to candles.
§ Mr. LawsonI thank the right hon. Gentleman, and I propose to send him particulars of prices that are paid.
