HC Deb 05 March 1940 vol 358 c185
26. Mr. Lawson

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that certain miners in the County of Durham have to use candles for their work; that the cost of these has risen between 1st August and 12th February from 4d. to 1s. 6d. per lb.; and what steps he proposes to deal with this abnormal rise in the cost of a commodity, the burden of which falls upon the miners?

Sir A. Duncan

If the hon. Member will be good enough to let me have particulars of the cases he has in mind, I will ask the local price regulation committee to examine and report upon them forthwith, in order that I may be in a position to decide whether the Prices of Goods Act should be applied to candles.

Mr. Lawson

I thank the right hon. Gentleman, and I propose to send him particulars of prices that are paid.
