HC Deb 05 March 1940 vol 358 cc216-7
Mr. Attlee

May I ask the Prime Minister to state what business it is proposed to take during the remainder of the week?

The Prime Minister

To-morrow, Wednesday, after the Debate on Palestine, we propose to take the Motion to approve the Czecho-Slovakia (Settlement of Financial Claims) Draft Order, and the Motion to approve the Potato (1939 Crop) (Charges) Order.

On Thursday, after the Air Estimates, we desire to obtain the Committee and remaining stages of the Rating and Valuation Bill, and of the Cotton Industry Bill (Lords), and the Motion to approve the Clearing Office (Turkey) Amendment (No. 2) Order.

The Report stage of outstanding Civil Supplementary Estimates will be postponed.

Mr. Attlee

May I take it that the remaining stages of the Rating and Valuation Bill and of the Cotton Industry Bill will be taken only if there is time for their discussion at a reasonable hour?

The Prime Minister

Yes, Sir, I hope that it will not be necessary to ask the House to sit late. We certainly have that in mind.

Mr. T. Williams

May I ask whether that observation will also apply if any serious differences should be found to arise in regard to the Potato Order?

The Prime Minister

Perhaps it would be better to see how we get on.
