HC Deb 04 March 1940 vol 358 c4
9. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Prime Minister whether he will take steps to counter the propaganda which is being widely circulated in the United States of America, to the effect that the opening of United States mail camouflages a British effort to learn American trade secrets for the benefit of British firms, especially in view of what took place after the Great War?

The Minister of Information (Sir John Reith)

I have been asked to reply. Yes, Sir. Steps to that end are being taken, and I am glad to have this opportunity of denying the allegation to which the hon. and learned Member refers in the latter part of the Question, which has no foundation in fact.
