HC Deb 20 June 1940 vol 362 c239
46. Mr. Cocks

asked the Prime Minister whether he is satisfied with the existing arrangements for co-ordinating the action of all civil and service authorities for purposes of Home Defence; and what authority now exists for giving immediate and co-ordinated decisions on such matters?

Mr. Attlee

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave to him on Wednesday, 12th June, in which I said that arrangements had been made which, in my opinion, would satisfactorily secure close co-ordination of Home Defence activities.

Mr. Cocks

In view of the fact that in the event of invasion the military authorities would take control, would it not be better to put the whole question now under the control of one authority, such as the War Office?

Mr. Attlee

I think not.
