HC Deb 19 June 1940 vol 362 c148
24. Captain Plugge

asked the Minister of Shipping whether it is proposed to replace small vessels belonging to civilians who were called on to help with the evacuation from Dunkirk and which were lost in the operations?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Shipping (Sir Arthur Salter)

I am afraid it would be impracticable for my Department to replace small vessels lost during the evacuation from Dunkirk, but owners may claim compensation for their loss. A notice which deals with this point among others has been issued to the owners of all ships known to have been engaged in the operation.
