HC Deb 06 June 1940 vol 361 c989
39. Mr. Mander

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give an assurance that, in the event of it becoming evident that companies are disregarding his request not to pay increased dividends, he will introduce legislation on the lines of the Limitation of Dividends Bill?

Sir K. Wood

I do not anticipate that there will be any such disregard of my request, but the position will be watched.

Mr. Mander

Does the Chancellor of the Exchequer intend to introduce legislation, in view of the request being disregarded.

Sir K. Wood

That is a hypothetical question, but I will keep this matter before me, and, from time to time, take whatever action is necessary.
