HC Deb 24 July 1940 vol 363 cc761-2
2. Sir Frank Sanderson

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the present composition of the Belgian Government, its status and where it is situated?

Mr. Butler

So far as I am aware the composition of the Belgian Government has not been altered since the invasion of the Low Countries on 10th May. There has been no change in its status since it assumed by a Ministerial Decree dated 28th May the sovereign powers of the King, who was declared under Article 82 of the Belgian Constitution to be a prisoner in the hands of the enemy and as such incapable of reigning. The Ministers are believed to be in unoccupied France with the exception of the Minister of the Colonies and the Minister of Health.

Mr. Watkins

How many members of that Government are now in this country?

Mr. Butler

There were recently two, and one may still be here.
