HC Deb 23 July 1940 vol 363 c601
65. Mr. James Griffiths

asked the Secretary for Mines what steps are being taken to promote the expansion of our coal export trade in the South American countries; and whether it is proposed to provide special assistance to the export trade in this and other areas?

Mr. Grenfell

The Government are fully alive to the importance of maintaining and expanding coal exports to the greatest possible extent; and they are in consultation with the coal industry as to the methods by which this could be achieved.
