HC Deb 18 July 1940 vol 363 c398
60. Mr. Liddall

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has initiated any survey of the gorse and heather districts and the idle grasslands of Sussex; and, if his Department or the local authorities have not arranged for suitable districts and the idle or residential Sussex grasslands to be cleared for grazing, or for potatoes, or ploughed up for vegetables or prepared for pig production, will he now complete preparations in advance in order to avoid having to act hurriedly and at the last moment?

Mr. Hudson

This matter forms part of the normal duty of the county war agricultural executive committees, who can be relied upon to make full use of their powers.

Mr. Liddall

Will the right hon. Gentleman himself inquire if any such preparations at all are being made by the Sussex County Committees?
