HC Deb 18 July 1940 vol 363 c397
57. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will immediately take steps to secure that the banks will give some credit concession to tenant farmers who are not in a position to give collateral security as in the case of the farm owners?

Mr. Hudson

No, Sir, I have no evidence to suggest that any such steps are necessary.

Mr. De la Bère

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that these tenant farmers are required to pay 5 per cent, on the money that they have obtained from the banks? Is he not also aware that it is necessary to have the fullest possible amount of food from every acre of ground? Why hinder the farmers by these charges? May we have some satisfactory answer?
