HC Deb 18 July 1940 vol 363 c392
45. Mr. Wedgwood

asked the Prime Minister whether he will give the pledge of His Majesty's Government that alien refugees from Hitler, now interned in this country will, under no circumstances, be handed back to Hitler, as in France?

The Prime Minister

Yes. Sir. It is inconceivable to me that His Majesty's Government, either now or at any future date, would hand over to their oppressors persons who had sought in this country a refuge from persecution.
