HC Deb 17 July 1940 vol 363 cc214-5
58. Sir R. Acland

asked the Minister of Supply whether he proposes to take over the iron railings round the gardens in the squares of London and other towns and cities and use them for scrap-iron?

The Minister of Supply (Mr. Herbert Morrison)

I have arranged for a survey of such railings to be made, with a view to their release wherever practicable for steel making. I am glad to say that the flow of railings for scrap is increasing.

Mr. A. C. Reed

Will the right hon. Gentleman also look at estates in the country, say in Devonshire, and have the iron railings removed from those as well?
