asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any statement to make regarding the position of the French islands of Madagascar and Bourbon and the other French Colonies in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, in view of the present international situation?

His Majesty's Government are alive to the importance of this question, but I regret that I am not yet in a position to make a statement on the situation in these territories.
