HC Deb 11 July 1940 vol 362 c1341
46. Sir Reginald Blair

asked the Prime Minister whether he will include in the Bill to prolong the life of the present Parliament a provision for the setting up of a commission for the redistribution of the electorate?

Mr. Attlee

I fully realise the importance of the point raised by my hon. Friend, but I am not in a position to make a statement on the subject at the present time.

Sir R. Blair

Is my right hon. Friend content, in the interests of democracy, to have his own vote, certainly in a very nice constituency, only worth one-twentieth or one-fortieth of the value of a vote in other constituencies in this country?

Mr. Attlee

The hon. Member will realise that the question of a redistribution of the electorate must obviously have some relation to the redistribution of the population.
