HC Deb 03 July 1940 vol 362 c836
46. Captain Medlicott

asked the Prime Minister whether he will take such steps as will enable the individual Members of this House to enter into a solemn pledge that this House, as the sovereign representative assembly of the nation, will not assent to the signing of any treaty of peace with Germany until decisive victory over that country has been won?

Mr. Attlee

I do not understand my hon. and gallant Friend's Question, which appears to be based on a misapprehension of the constitutional position. The determination of His Majesty's Government to secure a decisive victory has been made clear in recent statements in this House. Such statements have received the full support of hon. Members.
