HC Deb 03 July 1940 vol 362 c818
12. Mr. A. Edwards

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Aircraft Production whether he has considered the advisability of erecting refineries in Halifax, Nova Scotia, instead of proceeding with the schemes at present in hand; and whether he has considered this from the point of view of vulnerability, economy and available steel supplies?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Aircraft Production (Colonel Llewellin)

It would not be in the public interest to give information in regard to the erection of refineries, but if my hon. Friend would care to discuss the matter with me, I should be glad to do so.

Mr. Edwards

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that I have discussed this matter with four different Departments, all of whom disclaimed any responsibility?

Colonel Llewellin

If the hon. Member wishes to discuss these matters with me, I am quite prepared to see him, as I said in answer to his original Question.

Mr. Edwards

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman not aware that I have endeavoured to discuss this matter with the Ministers of four Departments for the last month or six weeks, and there has been no encouragement whatever given to me?
