HC Deb 03 July 1940 vol 362 cc836-7
51. Mr. Burke

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he will consider issuing increased sugar rations to invalids whose need for such increase is certified by doctors?

Mr. Boothby

The question whether certain invalids require an increased sugar ration has been considered by the Food Rationing (Special Diets) Committee of the Medical Research Council, which has advised that extra rations should be allowed to those suffering from spontaneous hypoglycaemia. The committee do not consider that extra sugar rations are required for any other type of invalid.

Mr. Liddall

May I ask what my hon. Friend referred to; and does he think that it will affect me at all?

Mr. Boothby

It is a very rare disease.
