HC Deb 30 January 1940 vol 356 cc967-8
41. Mr. Parker

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that many air-raid precautions workers are members of trade unions to which other local government employes belong, and that some local authorities are trying to prevent such membership; and whether he will make it clear that membership of these unions is not a bar to air-raid precautions service?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Home Security (Mr. Mebane)

The air-raid precautions services include many members of trade unions and I am not aware that any local authorities are seeking to prohibit such membership. Membership of a trade union is certainly not a bar to enrolment in the services.
