HC Deb 25 January 1940 vol 356 c778
69. Mr. Ridley

asked the Home Secretary whether any communication has been received from the Royal Commission on Workmen's Compensation since its meeting on the 12th January?

Sir J. Anderson

Yes, Sir, and I would refer to the reply given to the hon. Member for Normanton (Mr. T. Smith) on Tuesday last as to the nature of the communication.

Mr. Ridley

Is there anything in the communication which indicates any opposition on the part of the Royal Commission to the Government taking immediate steps to deal with the present labour difficulties?

Sir J. Anderson

I have nothing to add to the information given by the Under-Secretary of State on Tuesday of last week in regard to the contents of that communication.

Mr. T. Smith

Does that mean that the Government intend to do nothing to relieve the immediate situation?

Sir J. Anderson

I think there is a Motion on the Paper on the subject and it may be possible to debate it at an early date.
