§ Mr. AttleeMay I ask the Prime Minister to state the business for next week?
§ The Prime MinisterThe business of the House for next week will be:
Tuesday, 30th January—Third Reading of the Gas and Steam Vehicles (Excise Duties) Bill; Debate on the Opposition Motion on Workmen's Compensation.
Wednesday, 31st January—Second Reading of the Industrial Assurance and Friendly Societies (Emergency Protection from Forfeiture) Bill and of the Trade Boards and Road Haulage Wages (Emergency Provisions) Bill.
Thursday, 1st February—Debate on the Opposition Motion on Economic Organisation.
The House will not sit on Friday.
§ Mr. AttleeWill it be possible to get Bills into the hands of Members earlier, before they are put down for Second Reading? The House has been sitting only three days a week and we are getting the Bills on Thursday when there is a Second Reading on the Wednesday following. It gives very short time for consultation and examination of the details?
§ The Prime MinisterI appreciate the difficulty, but the right hon. Gentleman will also appreciate the difficulty in present circumstances with so much work for the Parliamentary draftsmen. Everything that can be clone will be done.
§ Mr. AttleeIs it proposed to take the Committee stage of any of these Bills upstairs?
§ The Prime MinisterI am afraid I am not ready to make a statement about that.
§ Miss WilkinsonWhy is there such special work for the Parliamentary draftsmen, in view of the fact that there are fewer Bills coming to the House than ever before?
§ The Prime MinisterPerhaps the hon. Lady has forgotten that there are regulations as well.
§
Resolved,
That this House, at its rising this day, do adjourn till Tuesday next."—[The Prime Minister.]
