asked the Home Secretary how many Anderson shelters have been purchased by members of the public who were ineligible for free shelters?

Facilities for the purchase of these shelters have hitherto been limited to 52 urban areas; and in these areas up to date the number of applications for purchase is 1,053, and the number of shelters actually purchased is 773. Arrangements are being made for the purchase scheme to be extended to a further 114 areas.

May I ask whether, in view of the small demand for these shelters, the expenditure involved in providing them for this purpose is adequately justified?
