HC Deb 17 January 1940 vol 356 c112
14. Mr. Butcher

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether minimum prices have yet been fixed for potatoes?

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Mr. W. S. Morrison)

An Order fixing minimum growers' prices, both for ware and seed potatoes, is in preparation, and will, I hope, be issued shortly.

15. Mr. Butcher

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what steps are being taken to ensure that surplus potatoes are conserved for feeding-stuffs or for other purposes?

Mr. Morrison

Factory facilities for manufacturing potato meal from surplus potatoes are already in existence. The question of augmenting these facilities in connection with the 1940 potato crop is at present under examination.

Mr. Wilfrid Roberts

Has the Minister in mind that potatoes from certain areas shall be distributed equally all over the country?

Mr. Morrison

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Graham White

Will Irish potatoes be included in all these arrangements?

Mr. Morrison

Northern Irish potatoes, but not those from Eire.
