HC Deb 16 January 1940 vol 356 c5
9. Mr. Jenkins

asked the Minister of Shipping whether he is now in a position to make a statement regarding the improvement in the dry-dock accommodation at the ports on the Welsh side of the Bristol Channel?

The Minister of Shipping (Sir John Gilmour)

Yes, Sir. A dry dock at Newport which had been closed for a considerable time has, on the initiative of the owners, been reconditioned, and has become available for docking large vessels.

Mr. Jenkins

Does not the right hon. Gentleman realise that there is need in South Wales ports for more and larger dry docks?

Sir J. Gilmour

The question is under consideration.
