76. Mr. Whiteasked the Minister of Food why the appropriate credit charge in 1357 respect of flour sold to the Army by controlled millers is as high as 7½ per cent.?
§ Mr. W. S. MorrisonThe basic price of flour under the Flour (Prices) (No. 1) Order, 1939, assumes payment of the price not later than 28 days after delivery. The Flour (Prices) Order requires millers to allow the customary trade discount where payment is made before the expiration of 28 days and to add the customary amount to the price where payment is made by the buyer after 28 days. The charge of 7½ per cent. referred to in the Question represents the charge for six months' credit which is a very abnormal period. I am looking further into the matter.
§ Mr. MorrisonI am looking into it to see whether action can be expedited.
