HC Deb 20 February 1940 vol 357 c1131
30. Mr. Boyce

asked the Secretary of State for War whether a volunteer who overstated his age for the purpose of enlisting in the Territorial Army prior to the war will, for the purposes of overseas service, be deemed to be of the age stated or will be retained on home service until he has reached the actual age of 20 years?

Mr. Stanley

For the purpose of eligibility for service overseas, the age of an officer or soldier will be determined by his birth certificate. A man who enlisted in the Territorial Army before the war may be sent overseas at the age of 19.
