HC Deb 13 February 1940 vol 357 cc551-2
2. Mr. Hamilton Kerr

asked the President of the Board of Trade what is the present position with regard to development and research in the cotton industry; to what extent plans have had to be retarded as a result of the Cotton Industry (Reorganisation) Act not being brought into force; and whether he can give an assurance that under the temporary arrangements now contemplated ample facilities will be available for such development?

The President of the Board of Trade (Sir Andrew Duncan)

The Cotton Controller and the Cotton Board are fully alive to the importance of development and research in the cotton industry and I am glad to give the hon. Member an assurance that under the proposals con- tained in the Cotton Industry Bill, which is being introduced to-day in another place, ample facilities will be available both for development and research.
