HC Deb 08 February 1940 vol 357 c387
27. Mr. Beechman

asked the Home Secretary whether he can now state what steps he has taken to initiate the discussions with a view to improving the compensation payable under the Workmen's Compensation Act; and whether he will specify the bodies or persons with whom such discussions will take place?

Sir J. Anderson

With a view to achieving practical results as rapidly as possible I think the best course will be for the Government to formulate some proposals as a basis for discussion, and this is now being done. I cannot say precisely whom it may prove desirable to consult, but among those consulted will be representatives from the British Employers' Confederation and the Trades Union Congress General Council.

Mr. George Griffiths

Does not the right hon. Gentleman know that while Ministers are consulting thousands of men and their wives are starving because of the small amount of compensation which they are getting—thousands.
