HC Deb 01 February 1940 vol 356 c1271
78. Mr. Joel

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the large number of people in the country concerned with the Defence Forces, both civil and military, who are now using the 24-hour clock, he will consider the desirability of making the use of this system general for all Government Departments and their activities?

Captain Crookshank

The adoption of a 24-hour time system by Government Departments is regarded as a matter to be decided by the head of each Department in accordance with the requirements of its work.
