HC Deb 21 August 1940 vol 364 cc1290-1
32. Sir Granville Gibson

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will, as part of reconstruction employment, take the initiative in planning forward the abolition of all railway level crossings except those in remote rural districts, so that consideration of a post-war scheme may not be embarked upon hurriedly and at the last moment?

The Minister of Transport (Sir John Reith)

Yes, Sir. In the preparation of post-war schemes the Ministry's policy of promoting or encouraging the elimination of level crossings is being continued.
