HC Deb 20 August 1940 vol 364 c1114
38. Mr. Isaacs

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether any special steps are being taken to facilitate the holding of stocks in South America, with a view to maintaining and expanding export trade to those South American countries from which the United Kingdom is drawing essential supplies?

The President of the Board of Trade (Sir Andrew -Duncan)

Yes, Sir. The Export Council have had this matter under close examination, and steps are being taken to enable larger stocks of British goods to be carried in these markets, thus minimising any [...]indrances created by war conditions.

Mr. Isaacs

Is the right hon. Gentleman satisfied that the Export Council are carrying on this work as expeditiously as possible?

Sir A. Duncan

Yes, Sir. I am quite satisfied.
