HC Deb 14 August 1940 vol 364 c782
53. M. Glenvil Hall

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food the percentage of sugar now allowed, respectively, to brewers, the manufacturers of invalid and baby foods, and householders, compared with their prewar average consumption?

Mr. Boothby

Supplies of sugar to brewers, manufacturers of invalid and baby foods, and domestic consumers amount respectively to 60, 60 and 50 per cent. of pre-war average consumption. Domestic consumers have, in addition, received special allowances for fruit preservation.

Mr. Hall

Does the hon. Gentleman realise that even now the brewers have 10 per cent. more than anybody else?

Mr. Boothby

I am afraid that I cannot accept that as a statement of fact.
