HC Deb 13 August 1940 vol 364 cc603-4
58. Mr. Thorne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the gross amount of property assessed for Income Tax for the years ended March, 1938, 1939, and 1940?

Sir K. Wood

The latest information available regarding the assessments under Schedule A of the Income Tax is that published in the Eighty-Second Annual Report of the Commissioners of Inland Revenue (Command Paper 6099), and I would refer the hon. Member to the tables therein on pages 56 and 58.

61. Commander Sir Archibald Southby

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is being done to implement the broadcast statement, on 29th June, that the option to be assessed for profits under Schedule B would be withdrawn from farmers who are making substantial profits on the better lands under the revised prices, in view of the fact that no provision for this purpose is included in the Finance Bill?

Sir K. Wood

It is proposed to include in next year's Finance Bill the necessary provision for dealing with this matter.
