HC Deb 13 August 1940 vol 364 c604
62. Mr. Denville

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the official estimate that £250,000 will be derived from all living entertainments, he can state the approximate amount which it is anticipated will be raised through the living theatre alone?

Sir K. Wood

I regret that information is not available to enable the estimated aggregate gain to the Exchequer from the increase of the lower scale of Entertainments Duty to be divided precisely between the various kinds of entertainments concerned, but it is estimated that some 85 per cent. of the total yield will be derived from theatres and music halls.
