§ 53. Mr. Charles Brownasked the Minister of Supply whether he has any evidence to show that the product of Hyganic, Limited, carrying on the work of manure manufacturers at Wood Lane, Shepherds Bush, is being used in any considerable quantities in any service essential to the life of the community?
§ Mr. H. MorrisonMy hon. Friend will not expect me to give detailed particulars about the marketing of any proprietary article. I can assure him, however, that my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture is satisfied that the product referred to is being used by agriculturists. Moreover, as indicated in my reply of 31st July, my right hon. Friend is anxious that all possible fertilising materials should be made available in present circumstances.
§ Mr. BrownBefore my right hon. Friend made his special Order permitting this company to continue the manufacture of this material, did he satisfy himself that their product was being disposed of commercially in considerable quantities; and is he aware that a huge dump of this material is accumulating in the neighbourhood and is being offensive to everybody?
§ Mr. MorrisonIf the dump is improperly increasing, I will look into the question. With regard to the first point, I made inquiries of the Minister of Agriculture, and he thought that, in the interests of getting all possible fertilising material, on balance it would be wise to let the thing go on. I fully appreciate that objections which would apply in the ordinary way would, but for war-time conditions, apply to this place.
