asked the Secretary for Mines (1) the output of coal in Yorkshire for the last week for which figures are available, and for the comparable week in 1939;

(2) how many collieries have been reopened in Yorkshire since the outbreak of war, and the number of miners re-employed?

12. Mr. Jenkins

asked the Secretary for Mines the number of workpeople employed in the South Wales and Monmouthshire coalfield durng the first three months of 1939, and the first three months of 1940?

It is not in the public interest to publish these figures.

Is the Secretary for Mines prepared to give the figures and to say how many miners have been re-employed?

Mr. Lloyd

I cannot say; but we are willing to discuss the question with the hon. Member and with the miners' representatives.

Will similar information be given in regard to South Wales and Monmouthshire?

Mr. Lloyd
