HC Deb 25 April 1940 vol 360 cc350-1
28. Mr. Hicks

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether it is proposed to review rates of pensions to disabled ex-Service men in the Indian services, having regard to the abnormal increase in the cost of living since the outbreak of war in September, 1939?

The Under-Secretary of State for India (Sir Hugh O'Neill)

No proposal to this effect has been received from the Government of India in regard to Indian ex-Service men; the only British ex-Service men whose pensions are administered by the India Office are personnel of the India Unattached List, and any decision taken in regard to their pensions would follow the policy of His Majesty's Government in regard to ex-Service men in general.

Mr. Hicks

Am I to understand from the answer that the Government do not propose to review these pensions in view of the increased cost of living?

Sir H. O'Neill

It will depend entirely on what is done in regard to ex-Service men in this country.

Mr. Hicks

Is there any proposal to review the question of pensions in this country?

Sir H. O'Neill

That is a question for the Minister of Pensions.
