HC Deb 25 April 1940 vol 360 cc346-7
13. Mr. Liddall

asked the Minister of Labour whether, as post-war building must be resumed when the number of building operatives will be inadequate, he will now confer with the trade union leaders about training demobilised men as building operatives?

Mr. E. Brown

My Department is in close touch with the industrial organisations in the building trades, but I am not aware of any evidence which would justify my hon. Friend's hypothesis.

22. Mr. Liddall

asked the Minister of Health whether plans have been considered by local authorities for making and storing a large quantity of British-made bricks and tiles in anticipation of the resumption of building on the cessation of hostilities, and meantime as a reserve against possible air-raid damage, and ultimately as a means of providing post-war employment?

The Minister of Health (Mr. Elliot)

As my hon. Friend will be aware, the Government have stored certain materials as a reserve against possible air-raid damage, but I do not consider that it is necessary to take special steps regarding the materials mentioned in the Question.
