§ 77. Dr. Littleasked the Minister of Information whether he has been able to locate the place from which a station calling itself the New British Broadcasting Station, 31 metres, is disseminating German propaganda of a mischievious kind, by giving untruthful talks on imaginary happenings in the United Kingdom and elsewhere over the British Empire, concluding the programme with "God Save the King" and gramophone selections; and what steps he is taking to put this station out of action at the earliest possible moment?
§ The Minister of Information (Sir John Reith)I would refer my hon. Friend to the answers given on 20th March to the hon. and gallant Member for Peebles (Captain Ramsay) and on 3rd April to the hon. Member for Putney (Mr. M. Samuel). This is a German station, located eastward of this country. The enemy propaganda emanating from it, together with that from other German sources, is countered in many ways. It would obviously be difficult to put the station out of action.
§ Dr. LittleWill my right hon. Friend make it clear to the inhabitants of the United Kingdom that this falsely-named and lying station is on German soil and should be treated with the contempt that it deserves? Many of my constituents do not know that.
§ Sir J. ReithYes, Sir. I will ask the British Broadcasting Corporation to make that clear.
§ Mr. ThorneIs it not known to the hon. Member that the Germans are colossal perverters of the truth?
