HC Deb 27 September 1939 vol 351 c1335
45. Mr. Tinker

asked the Prime Minister, in view of the fact that the in tended investigation into the position of old age pensioners is postponed for a period, will he consider giving time to the House to discuss what shall be done in the meantime, as there is great feeling throughout the country that the present position of old age pensioners should be reviewed immediately?

The Prime Minister (Mr. Chamberlain)

In the circumstances and in view of the full Debate on the subject of old age pensions on 27th July, I do not think that any useful purpose would be served by a further discussion at the present time. I would also refer to the statement I made on the subject on the 13th of this month.

Mr. Tinker

Perhaps the Prime Minister will remember the feelings of the House on this question. Are we not entitled to a discussion in the present circumstances in order to satisfy the House?
