HC Deb 27 September 1939 vol 351 cc1313-4
7. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware of discontent among the evacuated staff respecting the increased expense of maintainingthemselves in the new area and also their London homes; and whether he will consider granting periodic long week-end leave to the staff, together with the issue of warrants, to enable them to visit their homes at greatly reduced rates or without charge?

Sir K. Wood

The matter referred to which affects more than one Government Department, is, I understand, now under discussion between the Treasury and the staff side of the National Whitley Council.

Mr. Sorensen

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when we are likely to have some public announcement, or whether the staff are likely to know at an early date as to what facilities are to be given them?

Sir K. Wood

I will inquire, and let the hon. Member know at an early date.
