HC Deb 27 September 1939 vol 351 cc1340-1
60. Sir Assheton Pownall

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education what action is being taken with regard to the education of those children whose parents refused to have them evacuated or who have since returned to London?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education (Mr. Kenneth Lindsay)

My Noble Friend is fully conscious of the disadvantages resulting from the absence of education, medical services and the provision of organised games and recreation for children remaining in evacuation areas, and he hopes, at an early date, to issue a circular suggesting expedients for dealing with these matters.

Sir J. Nall

Is it not desirable that some provision should be made immediately for the education of these children?

Mr. Lindsay

That is precisely why the circular is being issued.
