HC Deb 27 September 1939 vol 351 c1344
66. Mr. Lewis

asked the Postmaster- General the reason for which so many post offices in London have been closed to the public, and when it is proposed to re-open them?

The Assistant Postmaster-General (Mr. Mabane)

Fourty-four branch post offices were closed at the outbreak of war as a very large number of the staff were called to the Colours and also for structural alterations. Seventeen have already been reopened and it is hoped to reopen the bulk of the remainder in a few weeks.
