HC Deb 14 September 1939 vol 351 c749
7. Mr. E. Smith

asked the Prime Minister whether it is intended to set up a Ministry of Munitions or whether he is satisfied that the present arrangements will secure the best results?

The Prime Minister (Mr. Chamberlain)

The powers granted by Parliament in the Ministry of Supply Act are sufficiently wide to cover any development of the functions of the Ministry which may be required. The existing arrangements are working very satisfactorily and much expansion has already taken place.
