HC Deb 14 September 1939 vol 351 cc749-50
9. Mr. Mander

asked the Prime Minister whether it is proposed at an early date to make a statement with regard to war aims; and whether, before doing so, he will consider the advisability of consulting the Opposition leaders in order that the policy, when declared shall represent the views of the House as a whole?

The Prime Minister

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave yesterday in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for the Western Division of Leeds (Mr. V. Adams). As regards the last part of the question, while His Majesty's Government must take full responsibility for such a statement, it is my intention to maintain the close touch with the leaders of the Opposition which at present exists.

Major Sir George Davies

Is my right hon. Friend aware that our principal war aim at the moment is to defeat the enemy and that we should give all our attention to that?
