§ 83. Sir Joseph Nallasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware of the varying and divergent views amongst local authorities concerned as to the standard of interior lighting for public-service vehicles; that a system approved in one district may be banned in other districts through which a vehicle operates; and will he adopt a precise specification which will avoid this conflict of local opinions on interior lighting?
§ Sir J. AndersonThe standard of interior lighting for public service vehicles is laid down in the Lighting (Restriction) Order, but I am aware that there has been 1565 some lack of uniformity in the methods employed by the various public service vehicle operators to give effect to the terms of the Order. Arrangements are being made whereby vehicles fitted with lighting to the approved standard will be available for inspection at convenient centres.
Sir J. NailWill these proposals avoid the blacking-out of windows, which makes it very difficult to see during the day time?
§ Sir J. AndersonI believe so.
