§ 69. Mr. Ammonasked the Home Secretary whether he will consider purchasing and distributing centrally air-raid precautions equipment, which is now authorised to be purchased locally, on grounds of economy and efficiency?
§ Sir J. AndersonCentral purchase arrangements have been in operation throughout in respect of all the major items of equipment including those which the Government is supplying to local authorities free of charge. There are certain less important items which local authorities have been authorised to buy locally, but if the hon. Member will inform me of the articles he has in mind I shall be glad to consider whether central purchase of these would be more economical and expeditious.
§ Mr. AmmonIs the right hon. Gentleman not aware that he has had representations on some of these points in the last few days?
§ Sir J. AndersonI was not aware what the hon. Gentleman had particularly in mind.
