§ 2. Mr. Henderson Stewartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered the recent memorandum of the National Farmers' Union of Scotland setting out what they regard as the essential conditions for an adequate production of foodstuffs in Scotland; and what steps he proposes to take to ensure that this objective shall be reached with out delay?
§ Mr. ColvilleI have the representations of the National Farmers' Union and Chamber of Agriculture for Scotland under careful consideration in consultation with the other Ministers concerned, and also with the Union and Chamber themselves with whom I have had a meeting. The memorandum covers a wide field and raises questions affecting more than one Department, and I am not in a position to add to statements which have already been made. I can assure my hon. Friend, however, that every consideration will be given to the views expressed.
Mr. StewartIn order to restore confidence in the coming winter, will my right hon. Friend consider making a very early statement regarding the price of crops now in stack at the farms?
§ Mr. ColvilleI am afraid I cannot add anything to what I have just said, but I assure my hon. Friend that very full consideration has been given to the representations which have been made.
§ Mr. George GriffithsWill the right hon. Gentleman keep in mind that the workers want £2 a week, and will he make a definite statement on that as soon as possible?
